MOVIE MADNESS & THE CURE

 (1) Prices at movies today are just insane! But you can inexpensively rent movies to view at home or, better yet, check them out for FREE at your local library. Problem is, though, wherever you watch movies, there are so often scenes and words even in PG-rated movies (not to mention innuendo and more even in G-rated ones) that I'm definitely not old enough for!

 Wanna put a stop to that problem? A small investment may pay off in huge dividends for your whole family. I’m talking about a ClearPlay DVD player. ClearPlay accepts any DVD - like the ones you rent or check out of the library – and does nothing to alter the DVD; but what it does do is filters what you see and hear. You set your own parameters regarding things like violence and foul language.

 The initial cost for the DVD player on ClearPlay’s website, www.ClearPlay.com, is $119 and then there’s a $7.99 a month fee which keeps you up to date on the latest releases and lets you download filters for movie that are released after you buy your DVD player. You can get a slight discount by paying for a full year upfront. I also found new and used ClearPlays on eBay.

 (3) You probably already know about the movies at the Carmike 10 on Lorna Road always being $1, even though you’re seeing features that have already faded from the regular theaters. Summer’s lineup does include plenty of children’s and teen movies, but here’s what you might not be aware of: on Tuesdays, you get popcorn and drinks for only $1 each. Current movies include: HOW TO TRAIN YOUR DRAGON; THE LAST SONG; OCEANS & FURRY VENGEANCE.
