CUT DOWN ON FUEL EXPENSE
If you don't have a GPS, use
www.MapQuest.com
or another free mapping service to select the
shortest route to the places you go on a regular basis such as work, church,
school, etc. You might be surprised to find that there's a simple shorter
way to get there! And if you reduce your driving distance by as little as 2
miles each way per day (based on 5 days a week), you'll save 3 tanks of gas per
year in the average vehicle. |

MORE WAYS TO
SAVE ON GASOLINE
Here are some simple ways to cut back on fuel
consumption: (1) Watch your RPM gauge, or tachometer. The higher the RPMs, the
more fuel your car is burning. You can reduce the RPMs by not floor-boarding it
when the light changes to green and by not accelerating unnecessarily. (2) Keep
your tires properly aligned, balanced, and aired. (3) Gas is, well, a gas!
Therefore, it evaporates easily. Make sure your gas cap is securely tightened.
(4) Don't sweat it!
Air-conditioning can reduce your mileage by around 4MPG, but the wind drag
caused by rolled-down windows at highway speeds amounts to about the same
reduction. Save that open window driving for lower speed roadways.

BROCCOLI
CORNBREAD
This stuff is
fabulous as is,
but if you want to turn it into a main dish, stir a pound of ground beef
(seasoned to your taste, fully cooked and well-drained) into these ingredients:
4 eggs
2 boxes
or packages of cornbread mix (like Jiffy or Martha White - Jiffy is too sweet
for this, in my opinion)
1 ½ cups of cottage cheese
1 ½ sticks of
margarine, melted
1 large onion, finely chopped
10-ounce package
of frozen chopped broccoli, thawed and drained
Mix all ingredients
together except broccoli; add this last and mix just enough to blend. Spray a
9X13 pan with non-stick cooking spray and bake in a preheated 400° oven for
20-25 minutes (about 30 minutes if ground beef is added).

$8 PRESCRIPTION EYEGLASSES?
Submit
your prescription information to
www.ZenniOptical.com and you can get a complete
pair of single-vision eyeglasses, including the frames, lenses, case, guarantee,
and a few other goodies for only $8. Yes, you have to stay within a certain
grouping of frames to get them at this price, but the selection is pretty
extensive and impressive. And even if you only buy these as a "spare pair," who
can beat the price? |

DUST GIVE IT A TRY!
Instead
of wasting money on costly disposable dustcloths or doing double duty with a
cloth and furniture spray, save those old
cotton socks and washcloths, etc. as dust rags.
Turn them into dust magnets by soaking them in lemon oil. Simply pour about
1/2 cup of lemon oil
into a glass or plastic jar (that you don't plan to
re-use for anything else), drop in one or two of your new dust rags and shake thoroughly. Remove
them and let them thoroughly dry. Slip the sock over your hand
and you can dust and detail with ease, and as you dust, the absorbed lemon
oil will attract dust like crazy without leaving any oily film on your
furniture. Wash your dust rags by themselves as needed (so as not to get the
lemon oil scent on other items) and repeat the shake-'em-in-the-jar and
drying steps. (Slather your hands in lotion and slip on a pair of latex
gloves before putting the sock on your hand; you'll have gorgeous hands by
the time you finish your dusting!) |

WEIGHT A
MINUTE!
Just because a bag of potatoes says it
weighs 10 pounds doesn't mean it weighs 10 pounds. A 3-lb. bag of apples
doesn't necessarily weigh 3 lbs. Bagged produce contains the approximate
amount it takes to come up to the stated weight; in actuality, some of the bags
are lighter and some are heavier. Select a few bags and put them on the
store's scales and weigh them; then choose the one that gives you the most for
your money. |

“Cross
my heart and hope to die, stick a needle in my eye." You may or may not
be familiar with this old childhood vow, but this was usually spoken when a
child promised never to divulge the information that was being shared with
him by his playmate. How the "...stick a needle..." part got added, I don't
know, except that it made a good rhyme of it; but the "cross my heart and
hope to die..." is believed to have developed from the Catholic practice of
making the sign of the cross. In other words, when a child swore this oath,
it was a most serious matter.
“The
Lord is faithful to all His promises..."
(Psalm 145:13, NIV)
Can we bring "cross my heart..." up to adulthood and let
me ask: How faithful are you to your word? Are your promises upheld? Are your
commitments followed through? Psalm 76:11 declares: "Make vows to the
Lord your God..." But do you know the rest of the verse? "...and
fulfill them" (NIV). You know, making a promise is easy, but keeping it
isn't always so simple. Never make a commitment you don't intend to keep, and
never make any promise to the Lord that you aren't willing to carry through.
We, His children, are to be like our Father.
