 DRYER SHEETS USES
When it comes to cleaning products, I'm not much of a name-dropper - I tend to buy the generic or budget-priced detergent, bleach, and fabric softener sheets. But whatever brand of dryer sheets you use, they have a lot of uses. Such as? (1)
To keep fabrics smelling fresher, keep a dryer sheet in every drawer where clothing or fabric items, such as towels, bed linens or tablecloths are stored. (2) To prevent the musty smell seldom-used luggage sometimes develops, keep a dryer sheet inside each piece.  (3) Use a USED dryer sheet to remove the lint from your dryer's lint filter. (4) Use a dryer sheet to collect pet hair from furniture. (5) Static-clinging skirts or pants can be cured by rubbing a dryer sheet over the inside of the fabric. If you're wearing pantyhose, rub the dryer sheet over them to prevent static problems.

STRAPPED IN

Ladies, don’t you love this season’s sleeveless dresses and tops?  But don’t you loathe wrestling to keep your bra straps tucked out of sight?  I’ve found the solution: Velcro dots! Yep, just attach a self-adhesive Velcro dot to your bra strap and stick the corresponding half to the underside of that wayward dress or top – your straps will be remain neatly hidden.

You might also want to invest in a pair of clear plastic bra straps. You'll find these in many stores and online at www.Target.com; www.HerRoom.com; and www.BraStraps.com.

  CONSIGNMENT SHOP DISCOUNT

Better Than Before is a huge consignment shop located at 124 4th St. SW in Cullman, AL just across the street from the parking deck to my favorite Cullman eatery, All Steak Restaurant. Shop Better Than Before and tell 'em "The Bargainomics Lady recommended you" and you'll get 10% off your entire purchase; print out 1 page of their website and bring it with you and they'll raise your discount to 15%! Click on the store name for a direct link to their site.

Previously on Fox-6, I'd mentioned the bus trip to several Birmingham/Cullman area consignment shops. Another one is scheduled for September 12. Register or find out more at:  www.ConsignmentChic.com.

(Need cheaper groceries? Check out the new info on my MONEY-SAVING LINKS page!)

 MARVIN'S EARLY BIRD DEALS

If there's a Marvin's Building/Home Center around you, you'll want to take advantage of their Saturday morning bargains. Every Saturday from 7am-11am, they offer special deals that can save you a bundle! For a map of locations, follow this link: http://www.marvinsbuildingmaterials.com/_pages/_locations/locations2.htm. Also, I was in the Cullman store recently and all the plants (not shrubs and trees) were marked to half-price.

  CASH FOR CLOTHES
As you're getting yourself and your family ready for the new school year and the fall season, go ahead and sort through last year's fall and winter clothes and set aside the ones that no longer fit or will no longer be worn. Check with area consignment shops and see when they begin accepting fall and winter clothing - most begin in August. Make an appointment to take your items in and make certain your items are clean and looking their best. Note, too, that while true vintage is in high demand, your better consignment shops will not accept poor condition or out-of-style clothing. And expect to receive one-half of the selling price the shop places on each item. You might also want to try your hand at selling on www.eBay.com.

Especially for those of you with small children, check with friends, neighbors, co-workers, etc. and see if you can work out trades with someone who has children above and below your children's sizes.  For example, if Angie has 2-year-old Katie and 5-year-old Kara, and you have 3-year-old Jayden, you can work out a trade so that Katie gets Jayden's outgrown clothes in exchange for Jayden getting Kara's.  It's a win/win situation with no one out any cash money.

ULTIMATE BREAD PUDDING

First, the pudding recipe and then one for the incredible vanilla sauce topping. For the pudding, you'll need: a 1-lb. loaf of white bread; 2 1/2 c. of sugar; 5 eggs; 3 1/2 c. of skim milk; and 2 tbsp. of vanilla.

Preheat the oven to 350 and spray a 9X13 pan with nonstick spray. Over a large bowl, tear the bread into small pieces. Add the other ingredients and thoroughly mix. Spread the mixture into the pan and bake for about 45 minutes or until puffy and golden brown.

For the VANILLA SAUCE, you'll need: 1/2 c. of sugar; 1/2 c. brown sugar; 1/2 c. whipping cream; 1/2 c. butter or margarine; and 1 tsp. vanilla.

In a saucepan, mix together all the ingredients except the vanilla. On medium heat, stir frequently until the mixture thickens and comes to a full boil, about 5-8 minutes. Remove from the heat; stir in vanilla; and then spoon sauce over warm pudding.

 INVITE FRIENDS OVER
Going out is expensive! Instead, invite your friends over for a planned evening of activities - movies, games, etc. - and a nice meal that all of you contribute to. Assign one dish for each person to bring and you'll put together a great meal without anyone overworking.  Once everyone sees how much fun doing this can be - and how much money can be saved - get your group on a schedule, rotating the gathering once a week or month to a different home.

  IN-HOME PET GROOMING
No, I'm not talking about a pet grooming service that comes to your home - I'm talking about becoming your pet's groomer. By investing in a few simple pieces of equipment, most of which you probably already own, you can start keeping that grooming expense money in your pocket. Visit your library or buy a used copy of a book like Dog Grooming for Dummies - I found it for $6.92 on www.Amazon.com.

If your neighbor can change the oil in your car and has a pet that needs grooming, why not work out a trade? Learning to barter means hanging on to a lot more of your money.

  FOR OLD TIMES’ SAKE

"He's as tight as Dick's hatband."  Somehow this saying has changed to refer to someone who is miserly. It seems the origin is about something entirely different. The word "tight" refers to a tight spot, as in the one Richard Cromwell found himself in for a few short months between the end of 1658 and the start of 1659. His father, Oliver Cromwell, saw to it that he was appointed to succeed him as "Lord Protector" of England, a title which, for a brief time after the death of King Charles I, even allowed the Lord Oliver Cromwell to take over the king's royal duties. But the son wasn't popular, particularly with the royal army, which put him in a most definitely "tight" spot. He was quickly and angrily removed from his position, never having had the opportunity to even taste of what it would have been like to have the power of the crown or "hatband," as it was jokingly referred to.  "As tight as Dick's hatband" referred to a dangerously sensitive situation, such as poor ol' RIchard Cromwell had once found himself in.

“And when the Chief Shepherd appears, you will receive the unfading crown of glory." (I Peter 5:4, Holman Christian Standard)

Lord Cromwell knew for a brief moment in time what it was like to wear a royal crown. But his crown wasn't just merely worldly, it wasn't even his to keep on earth. We who have trusted Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior, though, are promised in heaven a permanent "...unfading crown..." Earth's rewards, like its troubles, are only passing. The real life -- blessing-filled and trouble-free -- begins in eternity.

If you haven’t already given your heart and life to Christ, you may have questions about WHAT IT MEANS TO BE A CHRISTIAN.  If you do, please click on that highlighted title and you will be taken to a page on this site which will explain more about being a Christian and how you can become one.
